A Scar Is Photosensitive for Longer Than You Think
Instagram caption
The single instruction our surgical patients most often underestimate is sun protection over a healing scar. A new scar is more likely to darken with ultraviolet exposure for the better part of a year, and once it does, that pigment is slow to leave. This is why we ask for a physical sunscreen over the site daily, hats in June, and patience through a Tennessee summer. It is the least interesting part of aftercare and it changes the twelve-month appearance more than almost anything else we ask for.

Call to action. Our written aftercare covers this for each procedure. Ask at your follow-up if you have lost yours.
